The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team remains in complete control of capturing another district championship thanks to a 58-8 win over Round Rock Concordia Oct. 14.
“It was a pretty night offensively,” head coach Stephen Shipley said. “We took control and got up 14-0 quickly. We scored every time we had the ball except for one turnover on their three-yard line. We scored on every drive and made a lot of stops.”
Junior Cross Sanchez paved the way with four rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns — to senior Jadon Jones and to junior Nathan Tarver — and a reception. Senior Elijah Blackington had two rushing touchdowns. The coach also noted sophomores Carter Fromberg and Karter Van Gundy were superb in their play.
“Cross had a big night running the ball, by far,” Shipley said. “He’s also throwing the ball better.”
The Cardinals (4-3, 0-1) relied heavily on sophomore spread back Alexander Jones, who had already passed for more than 1,200 yards and rushed for almost 600 yards this season. They also leaned heavily on senior running back Jackson Clakely, who had more than 220 yards rushing on the season, and senior receiver Jacob Johnson, who had more than 500 yards receiving in 2022.
To say the Flames caged the Cardinals is an understatement.
“The one score we gave up was a pass play,” Shipley said. “We shut them down on every other drive. We made them punt or turn the ball over on downs. They’re a better team than what the score showed. They didn’t lay down. That’s why it went into the fourth quarter.”
While the coach was happy to earn another win, he noted the Flames still have things they can work on that are part of their second bye week that begins Monday, Oct. 17.
“We didn’t complete as many passes,” he said. “But we can run the ball.”
Faith returns to action Friday, Oct. 28, when the Flames travel to face Round Rock Christian at 7:30 p.m.
